This is a type of orchid, growing in a collapsed volcano lake (a caldera) in the mountains near Quito, Ecuador.
Ecuadorean Woman
I don’t take too many pictures of people when I travel, but this woman just happened to be standing in an alley while I was waiting around for the rest of my group, and it was a nice photo opportunity. The people of Ecuador are known for wearing felt hats, with different colors signifying different tribes and ethnicities.
Blue-footed Booby
This is one of my favorite pictures from traveling to Ecuador and the Galapagos a few years ago. The blue-footed boobies would walk right up to you (animals there don’t have a lot of natural predators, as the islands are so isolated, so they’re not scared of much). They would stand there, and show you their feet. So cute!
